Fires in Carlsbad

On Wednesday May 14th the Santa Ana winds were blowing strong and the weather was hot!  The Nanny Elena was at Aviara park with the kids and texted me a photo of smoke she saw by the park.  I told her to throw the kids in the car and take the coast home.  A minute later Craig called and said there were flames on Palomar Airport Road, he rushed home immediately.  The kids made it safely back with the Nanny and she raced home to her daughter Milana who was being evacuated form her school in San Elijo.  It turned out the fire was RIGHT next to the park they were at so thank God they made it back safely and without getting trapped there.  Fires were popping up all over San Diego County with at least 19 individual fires and ten of then receiving names, in Carlsbad, San Marcos, Pendelton, Encinitas and Rancho Bernardo and Escondido.  The one by our house was called the Poinsettia Fire.  The 5 freeway was closed and thousands of homes were evacuated (11,600 in Carlsbad).  The Rossittos were evacuated from their home in Bressi Ranch and came and stayed with us.  It was nice being with good friends in such a scary situation, the kids had a great time playing together and thankfully we never got evacuated or lost power.

The Poinsettia Fire destroyed 8 homes, a condo complex and two commercial buildings.

Mothers Day

I had the best Mother's Day.  The Thursday before, Braydon's school had an event for the Moms and Braydon made me a card.  Here it is:

On the morning of Mother's Day I woke up to the kids and Craig hugging me and giving me my present, a spa day at La Costa!  So excited.  Then we went to a wonderful brunch at Chandlers with the Rossitto family.

After brunch we spent the afternoon with the Rossittos and Cooleys in our backyard playing and enjoying the sun!  It was a perfect day!

Mimi and Grampy visit - Mimi's birthday

Mimi & Grampy came to visit for Mimi's birthday and to babysit the kids while we went to our neighbor Lauren & Jeff's wedding in Cabo.  It was a great time had by all.

Braydon and Siena have a butterfly kit where we got caterpillars that turn into butterflies.

Grampy took Braydon to baseball practice.

And we went to Benihana for dinner to celebrate Mimi's birthday!

Mimi & Grampy took the kids to Legoland :)

Siena started swim lessons

Siena Rose started swim lessons and she's a little water bug.  Her and Braydon have class at the same time so they are both in the water right next to each other.  It's really cute because Braydon will cheer for her and tell his teacher, "That's my sister!"  Braydon is doing a GREAT job at swim too.

Easter Weekend 2014

We had an Easter celebrating marathon for four days straight, starting on Thursday with Braydon having a hunt and party at school.  After schools we had an art show at his school and then we went to visit the Easter Bunny at the mall.  Siena LOVED the Easter Bunny, she ran up to him and gave him a huge hug and held his hand.  Between other peoples photos she would run in to hug him over and over again.  She couldn't stop talking about him after.

Friday I had a play group Easter party at the house with Braydon's best friends from school and his playgroup friends.  (Sophia, Zoe, Luke, Campbell, Parker, Connor, Jonah).  We died Easter eggs and had a hunt.  It was a great time!

Saturday we went to the Purcell's for a fabulous Easter party.  We had a hunt there as well and the Easter Bunny showed up!  Siena ran around following the bunny while Braydon collected as many eggs as possible.  We had such a great time we didn't want to leave!  The kids made fake lemonade out lemons they found on the ground from a tree, we hot tubbed, rode bikes and ate lots.

On Sunday we woke up and drove to Yorba Linda.  We went to church with Aunt Cristin, the kids did so well and were entertained by all the singing and praying.  After we went to Grandma & Grandpa's for a pool party to celebrate easter and Grandpa's 72nd birthday.  The kids loved playing with Max and Caprice in the hot tub.  We sang happy birthday to Jerry and Siena helped blow out the candles.

Spiritual Braydon

With Easter coming on Sunday Braydon has heard a lot about Jesus, and has a lot of questions.  "Why did Jesus die on the cross for our sins?" He also wanted know where I was going to go when I die and I told him I'd become an angel in heaven and watch him every day making sure he's happy.  He said that what makes him happy is buying Legos at Legoland and when I'm an angel will I buy him Legos to make him happy?  I said "sure honey" and gave him a kiss on the head.  Then he said "Mommy? Will you become an angel right now?  I want some new legos."

He painted this great picture at school, I'm so proud of him!  He said it's a field and crosses to remember Jesus.  His Godmother Aunt Cristin brought up a neat point when she saw this, she said Jesus was crucified with two other men so three crosses is accurate.

When I Grow Up...

Braydon told me while belting out the lyrics to the Frozen soundtrack in the car today that he wanted to be a Policeman that plays the guitar when he grows up.  I told him he can be anything he wants to be.  He said "All I need is a uniform, a hat and a guitar".

Baby Elephant

Siena has a new found love for Dumbo, or what she calls the Baby Elephant.  She wants to watch it all the time.  Her favorite part is the beginning when the storks drop off all the baby animals to their Moms.  She points and yells "Baby Bear" and "Baby Giraffe" and gets most excited for "Baby Elephant!!"

One night Craig and I went to tuck her in like we do every night (Craig usually does it).  She was sound asleep and when Craig moved her to put her on her pillow she yelled "Baby Elephant" in her sleep :)  She must have been dreaming about Dumbo.
